AN EDUCATIONAL card game produced by a former Woodbridge High School physics teacher has proved such a hit that it has been taken on by High Street giant WH Smith.

Eiman Munro's Top Careers in Science has been advertised to all 6,100 schools in the UK and Mrs Munro said: "I am getting responses every day and now I'm trying to push it into the commercial market. So fingers crossed, hopefully they go well."

Top Careers in Science is based around perennial hit children's card game Top Trumps. Each card represents a science-based profession such as chemical engineer, pharmacist or airline pilot. The cards are marked with points under five different categories, for example under the category of travel the airline pilot has a maximum 10 points, while the chemical engineer has just two.

But the cards provide education as well as fun, for each card describes the particular job and suggests a website of a leading organisation in that particular field where kids can get even more information if they are interested. Each card is also sponsored, cutting down the cost for the company, Loop Games.

Mrs Munro, of Heathcote Avenue, Clayhall, said: "One night at about 1am I just started laminating and colouring and cutting out. It was pretty crude but I realised 'wow, it works'."

The company has several other games under its banner, but it is Top Careers in Science that is proving the biggest hit presently.

The Loops Games team is made up of Mrs Munro, an illustrator, a sponsorship expert and an undergraduate who helps with the input of detail on the cards.

Mrs Munro said: "When I was 10 I used to flog my old toys, that was the first time I ever did anything 'Del Boy' style.

"I've created a resource which combines illustration with literacy and I hope it helps children learn."

The packs are available from WH Smith in the Ilford Exchange, priced £4.99. For more visit www.loopgames.co.uk.
