Students and staff at a Walthamstow school celebrated World Book Day in fancy dress.

Frederick Bremer School welcomed literary heroes and villains, who took part in activities, games and competitions.

Jenny Smith, headteacher of the Siddeley Road school, dressed as Aslan the lion from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

She said: “A love of books and literature is vital to children’s learning.

“We hope that today’s World Book Day events will inspire, engage and entertain our pupils whilst encouraging them to read even more in the future.”

World Book Day, a worldwide celebration of books and reading, takes place every year on March 6.
