A teenage Brownie leader has scooped an award which recognises positive contributions to society.

Alice Green, leader of the 15th Wanstead and Woodford Brownies Unit, won the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Award at the Kenneth More Theatre in Oakfield Road, Ilford, on Tuesday.

Nominated by fellow leader, Julie Traynor, the 15-year-old from Woodford Green joined the unit four years ago and has won £200 for the group.

Mother Jane Green, 46, who first introduced the Trinity Catholic School student to the unit, is proud of her success.

She said: "We are over the moon and absolutely delighted with her award. She has got a really lovely way with children and they really respect her.

"Alice is always looking up games on the internet for the girls to play and she works so hard for it, even though she is studying for her GCSEs.

"When I was leader of the Brownies she came along and helped out. She really enjoyed it and has grown into the role."
