Alan Mair is a Religious Education teacher at Trinity Catholic High School, in Mornington Road, Woodford Green.
He is speaking out about the benefits of travelling and volunteering for young people, not just on others, but for their own development.
Mr Mair is due to run 100km in 12 hours to help raise money for former pupil Caroline Rose's project to support women and the disabled in Burkina Faso.
