Residents in Waltham Forest have been praised for their willingness to recycle.

In the last six months the number of textile banks in the borough has risen from seven to 47.

Materials that are no longer fit for wear are being deposited for re-use now more than ever.

Almost ten tonnes of textiles were collected in May alone with just 4.1 tonnes being collected in November 2013.

Councillor Clyde Loakes called it a 'dramatic increase' saying that people in the borough have really 'stepped up their game'.

The Council’s latest campaign to encourage residents to recycle more is called ‘Yes you can’ and highlights the fact that 70 per cent of household waste is recyclable.

Charity TRAID is now offering collection of unwanted clothes and materials.
