Long-distance runner Paula Radcliffe is calling on residents to battle it out in a 10k run that will reveal who is the fastest London borough.

The marathon world record holder is appealing to thousands of runners from all 33 boroughs to take part in the Morrisons Great Newham London Run at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on July 19.

The cumulative times of runners in each borough will be added up with the winner announced following the run.

Ms Radcliffe MBE, who is also a six-time world champion, said: "I am intrigued to see how fast the men and women of each London borough are.

"I’m sure there will be stiff competition and it will be great to see who is the fastest.

"10k is great for the occasional runner or first timer.

"Most people can get ready with just a little training so I suggest all London residents get their trainers on and do their borough proud."

As well as the 10k event, there is also a marathon team relay event with teams of four people each running 10.5k.
