BUILDING has begun at a housing development on a former car-park site in Walthamstow.

The all new Foundry Mews will be made up of 21 ‘affordable’ homes on the site behind Wood Street Library.

Twelve homes will be shared ownership homes and there will be a supported living scheme of nine properties, too.

Last week, Waltham Forest councillors Angie Bean and Khevyn Limbajee joined housing association East Thames to mark the start of a new development in Walthamstow.

Soon, the hoardings surrounding the site will be transformed by Wood Street Walls, the not-for-profit company responsible for much of the borough’s street art.

Waltham Forest Council’s cabinet member for adult services, Cllr Angie Bean, said: “The Foundry Mews development will ensure residents with care needs have all the support they require to live as independently and actively as possible, while still being able to access round-the-clock assistance for tasks like taking medication, cooking and cleaning.”

East Thames director of development and regeneration, Kevin Harris, said he was ‘delighted’ to be working on the project.

He said: “Foundry Mews will help to meet not only the needs of first time buyers in Waltham Forest but also those who need a little extra support to enjoy independent lives.”

Cllr Khevyn Limbajee, cabinet member for housing said the development would be help towards the council achieving its ‘ambitious’ housing targets.

The development is being delivered by East Thames with construction partner Storm and was designed by award-winning architects RCKa .

Completion of the project, funded by the Mayor of London, Waltham Forest council and East Thames, is expected in summer 2016.
