Controversial plans to more than double the number of properties on a site have once again faced official opposition.

At a meeting of Loughton Town Council last week, councillors objected to plans for Trevelyan House in Goldings Hill.

The applicants, operating under Trevelyan House Limited, hope to demolish three existing properties and surrounding buildings and to build eight new houses on the site.

Last year, Epping Forest District Council refused plans for 10 houses and last week town councillors also opposed the new plans.

The previous proposal from the same applicant, which had been recommended for approval, was refused because it was too big and out of character with the area.

Councillors also said the development was too dense and cramped, and did not have enough parking spaces.

Objections were also made by people living in nearby Almshouses, The Campaign to Protect Rural England and the City of London Corporation.

The new proposals would also be an “overdevelopment”, said the town council.

Other issues included road safety concerns, the possible impact on a neighbouring heritage site and confusion over land ownership.

The district council will now vote on the plans at an upcoming meeting.
