A campaign group has welcomed moves by Transport for London to boost the capacity of a busy bus route.

Save Our Buses (SOB), which has lobbied TfL to improve the W19 bus service since 2013, says TfL has given passengers a “boost” by after agreeing to put more buses on the route by November.

Other changes set to be introduced include extra services from Monday to Saturday, buses every 20 minutes on Sundays and new vehicles introduced on the route.

The W19 runs between Walthamstow and Ilford, making stops at Whipps Cross Hospital, Aldersbrook, Leytonstone Station and Walthamstow Central.

SOB member Sarah Buck, said: "These improvements are just the ticket for W19 bus passengers.

“It is great to see bus chiefs giving this busy service the boost it needs, especially as it offers many useful and unique links across East London.

“It provides good access to Whipps Cross Hospital for staff, visitors and outpatients too.

“We’re also keen to see better bus services so that people can have an alternative to the car. This could help to cut traffic congestion and pollution."

SOB, which was formed in protest of overcrowding problems on the W19, successfully fought to increase daytime service on the route by 33 per cent in 2014.

In November 2014, campaigners also submitted a report, named "Standing Room Only" to TfL, drawing attention to “chaos” experienced by commuters on the route during rush hour.
