Woodford Green with Essex Ladies’ Tiffany Porter won the club’s second medal at the Commonwealth Games by taking silver in the women’s 100m hurdles final last night.
England’s Porter crossed the line in a time of 12.80 to finish just behind Australia’s Sally Pearson, who managed 12.67.
The Michigan-born hurdler qualified for Friday night’s final by winning her qualifying heat on Thursday evening with a time of 12.84, finishing comfortably ahead of Jamaica’s Danielle Williams (13.15) in second place.
Twenty-six-year-old Porter is Woodford Green with Essex Ladies’ second medal winner after Mark Dry won bronze for Scotland in the hammer throw on Tuesday.
Club-mate Daniel Awde was also part of the England 4x400m relay team which reached tonight’s final.
Awde, who has only switched to 400m ahead of the 2014 athletics season, played his part as England beat off stiff competition from Jamaica to finish in a time of 3.03.01, with the Caribbeans crossing the line in 3.03.47.
England and Awde now take their place in this evening’s final at Hampden Park – scheduled for an 8.10pm start – against Scotland, Zambia, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas, Nigeria and Australia.
