Wadham Lodge coach Neil Day has urged his team to show some bouncebackability after a bad week for the Kitchener Road outfit.

Following a 3-0 reverse in the Essex Senior Cup in midweek at Bowers & Pitsea, Lodge suffered a similar fate at Burnham Ramblers on Saturday going down 4-1 in the Essex Senior League.

Wadham were quickly two goals down at Leslie Field with Burnham’s second having more than a hint of offside about it.

Junior Ibeawuchi did pull a goal back and moments later Lodge boss Tony Ievoli was left aggrieved when penalty shouts were waved away after a trailing leg seem appeared to clearly catch the striker’s non-standing foot when set to shoot.

Two late goals finally killed off Wadham’s hopes, completing a bad week at the office for the ESL new boys.

Day was adamant his side did not do enough to get anything from both games and said: “Let’s face it, we were poor in both games and two big decisions went against us on Saturday, but to use that as an excuse would be papering over the cracks.

“It’s a test of character now as Hullbridge Sports is a very difficult place to go. We will need to show real bouncebackability to get our season back on track.”

Winless Waltham Forest were beaten 5-2 at home by Welwyn Garden City on Saturday – that despite being level at 2-2 early in the second half.

Trailing 2-1 at the break after Abiola Balogun’s 25th-minute strike, the Stags levelled after four second-half minutes through Daniel Lee Tulloch.

But they were far from prepared for what followed as the visitors hit three goals to leave them second bottom to pointless Enfield 1893.

Forest host Sporting Bengal United on Saturday.
