SNOW!

By Claire Hack »

Having snowed a bit on Monday, it naturally followed that the whole country ground to a halt.

Schools closed. Offices closed. People enjoyed a day off to frolic in the white stuff and were thoroughly pleased to be freezing cold and soaking wet.

Not us though. As we've already established, nothing stops for anyone here at the WFG. This being the case, however, it was quite difficult to get a whole lot done, as more or less everybody's contacts were either hibernating or having snowball fights.

But we soldiered on and you, good people of Waltham Forest, will have a paper this week in spite of it all.

To tell the truth, we've had a fairly high volume of news this week, which is always useful. The clamping saga continues in Walthamstow as an irate clampee (i.e. one who has been clamped, unfairly or otherwise) took up residence in his car for seven hours and the council's "wipe out enviro crime" campaign sets off apace - or as much as can be expected anyway.

There was also a death at Highams Park station after a man fell from the platform in front of horrified commuters and a man has been arrested in Leyton for apparently brandishing a gun in the middle of a busy high street.

On top of that, a woman has been jailed for three years after conning her way into the home of a disabled pensioner and stealing from her.

It's times like this I feel I will probably miss news reporting if I ever do achieve my goal of stealing Lucy Mangan's job...

Finally, a quick snow-related anecdote, as I feel I've I had my share of inconvenience because of the inclement weather.

To be fair, this was in part my own fault, as I somehow managed to get lost on the way from Wanstead to a door knock in Whipps Cross Road, having taken the perhaps ill-advised decision to walk. At any rate, somewhere along the way I took a wrong turn and ended up halfway to Snaresbrook (don't ask me how, because I really don't know) which wasn't very much fun in sub-zero temperatures early on Tuesday morning.

And it didn't help that the bus back to the office broke down, leaving me to walk the rest of the way, which was a good three-quarters of a mile. Needless to say, I arrived cold, damp and very much in need of a cup of tea.

And thus concludes my tale of snowy woe. Until the next time, blogfans.

Until the next time.
