A NEW trio of veteran musicians with more than 100 years of gigging experience between them are set to play their first gig together as a band in Walthamstow this Saturday night.

The Rockin' Gold Stars will take to the stage at the College Arms pub in Forest Road for the debut performance of their “danceable but edgy” brand of rock and roll.

The band includes Mitch Mitchell on bass and vocals, who is known as the founder and former member of rock group The Wild Angels. The group had the distinction, among other things, of supporting Bill Haley and the Comets at the Royal Albert Hall in the 1960s.

On guitar is Laurence ‘Fig’ Fagan, a professional musician since the 1960s who toured Europe with his band The Worrying Kynde and on the drums is Ralph Elmore, who is also known as an award-winning shooter.

The show starts around 9pm and entry is free. Over at the Plough Inn on Wood Street in Walthamstow it's a relatively quiet week for live music, with only the pub's traditional blues jam night on Monday scheduled in.

It starts from 9pm and entry is free. Participants are advised to bring their own instruments, but backline is provided.

In Essex, Waltham Abbey Folk Club has a singaround night at its venue in Brooker Road on Monday. It starts at 8.30pm and entry is £1.50p.

At The Square in Fourth Avenue, Harlow, rock band Small Talk headline on Thursday night.

Support comes from the Olympions (sic) and prog rock fans the Scholars.

Tickets are £4 and doors swing open at 8pm.

On Saturday the venue hosts a hip hop and soul night, with performances from MCs and DJs including Shrapnel, Lullaby, Lee MT and Hoodfellas.

It costs £5 and starts at 8pm. Entry is strictly for over 18s only.

Swing jazz and funk band Quartzz play the Lunga Lounge Leytonstone's Church Lane on Saturday night.

Entry is free, and it starts around 8pm.
