Sound Advice: Three free good gigs

THERE'S a delicious trio of free music nights at Walthamstow's Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub over the coming week.

Starting on Saturday night (April 2), Walthamstow rock band Cheesecloth play a headline set in the main bar.

The gig, at the venue in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, will begin at 8.30pm.

Then on Monday (April 4) blues group The Battered Saucepan perform from 9pm.

And if that wasn't enough goodness, on Wednesday (April 6) Graham Larkbey and friends host another jovial open mic night in the main bar area.

All performers and styles are welcome but participants are advised to arrive before 9.45pm to ensure they get a slot.

Meanwhile over in Essex, acclaimed duo Debra Cowan and John Roberts play Waltham Abbey Folk Club on Monday (April 4).

The special guests will perform from around 8.30pm.

Entry is £5 to the show, which is at the Royal British Legion building in Brooker Road.

This Sudden Injury headline an unsigned band night at Walthamstow's Standard Music Venue this Thursday (March 31).

Support comes from The City Lights, Ocean Eyes and Fate Untold.

Entry is £6, or £5 with a band flyer.

Doors open around 8.30pm and the show is organised by promoters Club Bus Wind.

Tribute act The Counterfeit Beatles play the venue, which is in Blackhorse Lane, on Saturday (April 2).

Tickets cost £9 and it starts around 8pm.

Norman Faulkner plays Loughton Folk Club on Thursday (March 31).

Support is provided by Harry Bird and the Rubber Wellies who perform a folk/reggae cabaret.

Entry is £3 with a £1 discount for members.

It is being held at the Loughton Club in Station Road, and the evening gets going at 8pm.

Shred-tastic heavy rock act Evita headline The Square music venue in Harlow on Saturday (April 2).

Support comes from Scar My Eyes and Vidina.

Tickets are £5 in advance, £6 for member or £7 for non-members on the door.

It kicks off at 8pm and entry is over 16s only.
