WHILE there are some bands who sing songs about 9/11 conspiracy theories, UFO sightings, Britney Spears and cheese sandwiches, most songwriters usually focus on the stubbornly timeless topic of love.
That's why it's always a breath of fresh air when bands like The Singing Loins come along. Their lyrically imaginative songs include tales of circus freaks, getting lost in Tesco and dog faeces. And the music ain't too bad either. In fact, it's pretty, pretty good.
They play the North Star pub in Leytonstone this Sunday (May 15) as part of a triple-bill of shows at the venue this week organised by promoters What's Cookin'.
It all kicks off on Thursday (May 12) with a headline set by Danish country music group the Emil Friis Band.

Meanwhile The Snakes perform a headline set there on Saturday (May 14) . They play rocking country music and got good reviews for their most recent album 'Sometime Soon'.
There's two sets for support, and both are singer-songwriters. First up is the critically acclaimed Welshman Christopher Rees followed by the talented Richard Warren, a.k.a. Echoboy.
The show is also from 8pm and is free.
Then the Singing Loins complete the triple-bill on Sunday. Support comes from six piece group Galley Beggar and it starts at the earlier time of 7pm, with free admission again.
However the North Star welcomes donations for the acts at all shows.
