Sound Advice: Multi-talented Al will make you laugh and cry

The multi-talented Al Neville plays Loughton Folk Club this Thursday (June 30).

Mr Al is known for his mix of both humour and pathos, all backed by some stirring melodies.

Entry is £3, with a £1 discount for members.

It's at the Loughton Club in Station Road, and doors open at 8pm.

Meanwhile over in Leytonstone boogie blues purveyors the Kingsize Slim Band headline the North Star pub in Browning Road.

Fronted by Toby Barelli, expect an energetic and super cool night.

Doors open at 8pm and entry is free, although donations welcome.

The show is organised by promoters What's Cookin', so quality is assured.

John Grey is the special guest of Waltham Abbey Folk Club on Monday (July 4).

Entry is £5 and doors are at 8.30pm to the club, which is based at the Royal British Legion HQ in Brooker Road.

The Battered Saucepan band play Ye Olde Rose and Crown in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, on Monday (July 4).

They'll start playing their masterful blues at around 9pm. Entry is free.

Then on Tuesday (July 5) When the Cat's Away play the bar. Expect a mix of blues and open mic, getting going around 9pm.

And on Wednesday (July 6) there's even more music, with an open mic night from 8.30pm hosted by Graham Larkbey and the Escape Committee. They'll also be playing some new material at the gig.

Open mic participants are advised to arrive before 9pm to be sure of securing a spot.

Up north in Harlow, Reachback, Six Hour Sundown and When Giants Fall play the Square music venue on Thursday (June 30).

Expect some raw unsigned rock and punk.

Entry is £4, or free to members.

Doors are at 8pm and it's for over 16s only.
