Sound Advice: Leytonstone Festival is where it's at - but there's other stuff too

By Daniel Binns »

IT'S all about the Leytonstone Festival this month in the world of local music.

Dozens of acts are playing at venues across the area, as already covered elsewhere in Freetime.

But that doesn't mean everywhere else will fall silent - there's still a wide variety of music all over the district for those unable to make any of the festival.

Over in Essex, Mistaken Identity headline Loughton Folk Club on Thursday (July 7).

The four-piece perform gorgeous a cappella four-part harmonies from a variety of genres, including pop, rock and folk.

Entrance is £2, with a £1 discount for members.

Doors are at 8pm at the Loughton Club, which is in Station Road.

Waltham Abbey Folk Club has a Singaround jam night on Monday (July 11).

Entry is £1.50p and doors to their venue, in Brooker Road, swing open at 8.30pm.

The 17Blues Club host a show by local band 11 Foot Sack on Friday (July 8).

This groups plays a “danceable” mix of blues, r 'n' b and soul.

The gig is at the Walthamstow Cricket Club in Greenway Avenue, and you don't need to be a member to come down and enjoy the tunes.

Doors are at 8.30pm and entry is free, although donations for the acts are welcome.

DJ Lanky Mick provides support with some rootsy classics.

Los Otros play Walthamstow's Ye Olde Rose and Crown next Tuesday (July 12) from 8pm in the main bar. It's free.

Up at the Square in Harlow, a trio of unsigned rock bands play on Thursday (July 7). They are Gravity, Kilto Take and Silent Smiles.

Entry is £4, or free for members, but only over 16s can attend. Doors are at eight.

All-girl Ramones tribute act The Ramonas play the venue on Saturday (July 9).

It costs £6, or £5 for members and doors are at 8pm.
