Sound Advice: Trombone-tastic

THE acclaimed Annie Whitehead Quintet play a headline set at Leytonstone's East Side Jazz Club next Tuesday (July 19).

Annie, a talented trombone player who has worked with hundreds of musicians including Elvis Costello and Robert Wyatt, has played on more than 50 albums - along with five of her own.

The gig, which is part of the Leytonstone Festival, costs £6 entry.

It's at the Lord Rookwood pub in Cann Hall Road.

Door are from 8.30pm.

Scottish five-piece The Dirty Beggars play the North Star pub in Leytonstone on Thursday (July 14).

Their superb bluegrass is backed up with support from the Henry Brothers.

The show is from 8pm and entry is free, although donations are welcome.

Tribute act Guns 2 Roses play the Standard Music Venue this Friday (July 15).

Entry to the venue, in Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow, costs £9 and doors open around 8pm.

One Step Behind play the club on Saturday (July 16). Tickets cost £10 and doors are at eight.

Local singer-songwriter John 'Daddio' Clarke headlines Loughton Folk Club on Thursday (July 14).

His compositions range from classical to “just plain silly”.

Entry is £3 to the show, which is at the Loughton Club in Station Road. There's a £1 discount for members.

Music from 8pm.

Rock act The Capris play Ye Olde Rose and Crown in Walthamstow on Saturday (July 16).

The gig, at the pub in Hoe Street, starts at 9pm in the main bar.

Entry is free.

The Battered Saucepans blues band perform at Ye Olde on Monday (July 18) from 9pm.

It's in the main bar and free.

When the Cat's Away play jazz at the pub on Tuesday (July 19) from 9pm, also in the bar and also free.

Waltham Abbey Folk Club has a Singaround jam night on Monday (July 18).

It's at the Royal British Legion HQ in Brooker Road and costs £1.50p entry. Doors are from 8.30pm.

Punk band The Filaments play the Square in Harlow on Friday (July 15).

Support comes from Deadline.

Doors are at 8pm and it's £7. Over 16s only.
