Sound Advice: Jazz master rolls into Leytonstone

CLARINET master Tony Coe plays the East Side Jazz Club in Leytonstone next Tuesday (November 9).

Mr Coe, an acclaimed composer and performer, was once described by Humphrey Lyttelton – the chair of popular Radio 4 comedy show I'm Sorry I Haven't Clue – as one of the most “remarkable and brilliant” musicians in the world.

The club, which is based at the Lord Rookwood in Cann Hall Road, usually charges £5 for entrance.

Doors open at 8.30pm.

Over in Walthamstow, indie rock bands The Chambers, W.I.T, The Basics and Altitude Zero play the Standard this Thursday (November 4).

Entry is £5 with a band flyer or £6 without.

Doors open around 8pm for an 8.30pm start. The night is organised by local promoters Club Bus Wind.

Tribute act Guns 2 Roses play the Blackhorse Lane venue on Friday (November 5), so if you like Axl Rose more than fireworks, head on down.

Tickets are £9 and doors are at around 8pm.

While on Saturday (November 6) it's the turn of Pink Floyd Dimension. Entry is £9 and doors are at 8pm.

There's an Open Mic night at the Plough Inn, on Wood Street in Walthamstow, this Saturday night (November 6).

Hosted by local musicians Jerry Spangles and Graham Tutton, the evening kicks off at around 8.30pm and runs until 11.30pm.

Admission is free and backline is provided.

David Campbell plays Walthamstow Folk Club's night at the Plough on Sunday (November 7).

Mr Campbell, who is mainly known as an unaccompanied singer but occasionally backs himself up on the banjo and ukulele, cites diverse influences ranging from the likes of Harry Cox and Steve Earle.

Entry is £6, or £5 for concessions. It starts at 7.30pm.

On Monday (November 8) the Plough features a free blues jam night from 9pm.

Waltham Abbey Folk Club in Brooker Road has a Singaround jam night on Monday (November 8) at 8.30pm. Entry is £1.50p.
