IT'S a busy week in north east London for music over the next week or so, with the launch of the first ever 'Stow Festival' alongside the usual run of cracking gigs.
The festival has already been comprehensively covered here in Freetime, so moving on to other local music news Sound Advice is pleased to report on the return to the borough of country and Americana and blues (and everything else) promoters What's Cookin'.
They stopped holding shows at the North Star pub in Leytonstone earlier this summer, but have now announced they plan to take up residency in the Birkbeck Tavern in Langthorne Road, Leyton, instead.
The first show at their new home comes from Champion West Virginia fiddler Chance McCoy on Saturday October 8. It'll be free and from 8pm.
But back to this week's line-up.
Betamax, The Basics, Electric Blue and Serenadeus play the Standard in Walthamstow this Thursday (September 22).
Doors to the gig, organised by promoters Club Bus Wind, open at the venue in Blackhorse Lane at around 8.30pm.
Entry is £6 or £5 with a band flyer.
Paddy Goes to Holyhead headline the club on Friday (September 23). Entry is £10 and doors are at 8pm.
Alternatively, Mickey Brown and Richie Barratt play Loughton Folk Club on the same day (Thursday September 22) from 8pm.
The duo are known for their 'good time' tunes.
It's at the Loughton Club in Station Road next to Brown's Garage.
Entry is £3, with a £1 discount for club members.
Or if that's not to your liking there's always Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub in Walthamstow's Hoe Street, which is hosting Tina T's Soul Funk Jam on Thursday (September 22).
It's in the main bar from 8pm ish.
Waltham Abbey Folk Club hosts a Singaround jam evening on Monday (September 26).
It costs £1.50p and is from 8.30pm in Brooker Road.
