Sound Advice: The sincere but succinct Josienne Clarke
Leading light of the folk revival movement, Josienne Clarke, plays Loughton Folk Club this Thursday (Febrary 2).
Compared to the likes of Sandy Denny, singer-songwriter Ms Clarke is known for her sincere but succinct tunes and is currently touring across the London region.
Entry is £3.
It's at the Loughton Club building in Station Road, and doors open at 8pm.
John Altman's Big Band perform at the East Side Jazz Club on Tuesday (February 7).
Entry to the venue, at the Lord Rookwood pub in Leytonstone's Cann Hall Road, is usually around £5.
Doors swing open at 8.30pm.
Fun time rockers Graham Larkbey and the Escape Committee bust out their popular tunes this Friday (February 3) at Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub in Hoe Street Walthamstow.
Support comes from the witty Al Neville.
The music starts around 8pm ish and entry is free, although donations for the acts are welcome.
Great folk songwriter Leon Rosselson plays the venue on Sunday (February 5) as the guest of Walthamstow Folk Club.
Mr R has been in the business for fifty years but is just as relevant today with his powerful tunes.
The gig, in the upstairs room of the pub, costs £6, or £5 for concessions.
Doors open about 7.30pm.
The “guilty conscience” of British country music Hank Wangford headlines the Birkbeck Tavern in Leytonstone this Sunday (February 5).
His dark and grubby tunes can be heard from 8pm, but singer-songwriter Mark Wynn and roots-stomper Serious Sam Barrett provide support from 5pm.
Entry is free but donations to the acts welcome. It's organised by promoters What's Cookin'.
Waltham Abbey Folk Club holds a singaround jam night on Monday (February 6).
It's at the Royal British Legion headquarters in Brooker Road and costs £1.50p to attend. Doors are at 8.30pm.
