Sound Advice: Middle Eastern jazz
EVER wondered what jazz mixed with Middle Eastern-style music sounds like?
Well you can find out next Wednesday (April 18) when the Matt Ridley Trio play the E17 Jazz night at Walthamstow Cricket Club.
Yup, these guys fuse a unique combination of genres to create a smooth and intriguing sound.
The trio features Arthur Lea on piano, Mr Ridley himself on bass and George Hart on Drums.
The show, at the club in Greenway Avenue, costs £5 to see and runs from 8.30pm until 10.30pm.
The incredible punk rock band Everafter play a free show at Leytonstone's Luna Lounge this Friday (April 13).
Also playing are After The Ice at show, which is in Church Lane. Doors open at 8pm.
Singer-songwriter Pete Morton headlines Loughton Folk Club on Thursday (April 12).
Support comes from high octane guitar duo Oka Vanga, who mix instrumental folk with Brazilian and African influences.
Entry is £5 and doors to the venue, at the Loughton Club in Station Road, open at 8pm.
The Battered Saucepan Blues Band host a jam night in Walthamstow on Monday (April 16).
It's at Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub in Hoe Street from around 8.30pm and is free.
Close harmony trio The Young 'Uns perform at Walthamstow Folk Club's weekly night this Sunday (April 15).
Expect everything from traditional sea shanties to more modern stuff.
Entry is £7, or £6 for concessions.
It's also at the Hoe Street pub and starts around 7.30pm.
Waltham Abbey Folk Club hosts a singaround jam night at the Royal British Legion building in Brooker Road on Monday (April 16). It's £1.50p and is at 8.30pm.
Hillbilly blues act Dead Plants play the Birkbeck Tavern in Leytonstone's Langthorne Road on Saturday (April 14).
Organised by promoters What's Cookin', it's free to get in although donations welcome. It starts at 8.30pm.
Five piece band Walking Wounded play the pub on Sunday (April 15). They play a variety of tunes ranging from Balkan-style to ska.
Kicking proceedings off are the acclaimed Americana group Good Intentions.
The music begins at 6pm and it's also free.
