Be careful what you say around reporters...

Posted on 5:36pm Wednesday 1st October 2008

Walthamstow after the oil runs out – what will it be like? Transition town coming soon

Posted on 3:38pm Wednesday 1st October 2008

What might Waltham Forest be like after the oil runs out… After the oil runs out?! The "Peak Oil" theory is complex, but put simply it's based on the fact that each oil well that's dug only has a certain amount of oil in it.

Goldfish: the surprisingly charismatic aquatic creature

Posted on 12:54pm Wednesday 24th September 2008

If I listed all the snippets of conversation FCR (that's Fearless Chief Reporter, for those of you who have forgotten) and my other colleagues have told me are "not for the blog", I would probably have a fairly comprehensive indictment of the level of (in)sanity in this office.

There comes a time in every blogger's life when a little hyperbole is called for

Posted on 4:59pm Wednesday 17th September 2008

It seems the borough's residents are destined to be buried under a mountain of uncollected rubbish, kicking and screaming beneath the cumulative filth - or something equally hyperbolic.

Pulped Fiction on the E17 Art Trail

Posted on 4:12pm Friday 12th September 2008

Why was I up at midnight last week, cutting out fake book covers into shapes that would never fit a book? I was working on “Pulped Fiction”, my contribution to the State of the Borough exhibition, on the E17 Art Trail.

Well, at least the world hasn't ended...

Posted on 1:47pm Wednesday 10th September 2008

How not to make our streets safer

Posted on 10:50am Friday 5th September 2008

This morning I’m pondering how we make our public spaces safer. Why? Because I wandered out to the farmer’s market, with my baby daughter, to discover the whole of Walthamstow town square and gardens cordoned off by police lines.

Listed building left to rot? Don't worry, it's the council's.

Posted on 11:27am Thursday 28th August 2008

A beautiful listed building has been damaged and is being left to decay, putting the safety of its users at risk. Don’t worry, you may say, the council can order the owners to maintain it. Tough luck, it’s Waltham Forest Council’s own flagship library in Walthamstow town square.

Class and campaigns – posh toffs versus working class Walthamstow

Posted on 9:24am Tuesday 19th August 2008

I've several times, by members of the public, councillors and council officers been told that the people fighting to save the EMD/Granada, the Stow, the market, the William Morris Gallery and Vestry House Museum and against a massive Primark on the Arcade site are middle class (and therefore somehow ignorable).

Sharia law for pavement cyclists?... Or dangerous drivers?

Posted on 10:35am Wednesday 6th August 2008
