BORIS Johnson has been chosen as the Conservative candidate for London's mayoral elections next May.

The Henley MP polled 15,661 votes while his rivals managed to muster 4,152 votes collectively.

Mr Johnson visited Waltham Forest on Friday as part of his tour of the 32 London local authorities.

He criticised the council's dithering' over the Arcade site in Walthamstow, and said: "It's hopeless and pathetic. Why don't the council get on with it?"

Mr Johnson also met shopkeepers and talked to those who had suffered from vandalism when he went on a tour of Highams Park.

A council spokesman refused to comment on Mr Johnson's views about the Arcade site.
