POLICE investigating a fatal crash involving a stolen car on the M11 have arrested a second teenager.

Two boys, aged 16 and 17, have now been arrested over the incident which happened on the southbound carriageway shortly after 8am yesterday (Saturday).

A 16-year-old boy was arrested at his home in Shepherd's Bush, London, yesterday afternoon (Saturday) and is being questioned about a variety of offences including causing death by dangerous driving.

A 17-year-old boy, from Shepherd's Bush, who was taken airlifted to Queens Hospital, in Romford, having been found in undergrowth near the crash scene with serious arm injuries was today arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in a stable condition and will be questioned when released from hospital.

The incident began shortly after 8am yesterday (Saturday, April 5) when a passing motorist flagged down officers to report having seen a blue Vauxhall Signum lose control and crash down an embankment on the southbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 6, near Harlow.

Officers found a 16-year-old boy, from south London, dead in the vehicle which had been stolen from outside its owners home in Twickenham, south west London, late on Friday evening.

Road workers reported seeing a "bloodstained man" running through nearby fields.

Police dog handlers and traffic officers and helicopters were dispatched to scour the countryside.

CCTV footage from the Underground station was studied as part of the hunt for the suspect.

The southbound M11 was closed while police investigated the incident with some motorists trapped on the Harlow stretch for several hours. The road was re-opened at 7pm last night.

The northbound carriageway remained open but delays were experienced as motorists slowed to look at the incident.

The 16-yearold boy was taken for questioning by road policing officers at Basildon Police Station.

Police had expected to release the name of the boy who died this afternoon, but his family are now not expected to formally identify has body until tomorrow or Tuesday.
