Wanstead High School's A-level results have improved on last year, figures show.

The school received an average points UCAS score of 753, 20 up from last year, while 20% of students got an A* or A grade, 3% up on last year's figure.

Headteacher Chris Van Bussel said: “There were excellent results today, all the students and staff have worked extremely hard to achieve these results and I am so happy for them.

“This success really is down to the dedication of staff and the students; it is satisfying to see it all pay off.

“Many of the students are off to top universities and I am sure they are all going to be very successful, I wish them all well in the future.”

The most successful student, Eleanor Estop, received two A*s in Psychology and History, with a further A in English Language and Literature.

Miss Estop, who will study Speech and Language Pathology at University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, said: “I am so happy all the hard work has paid off.

“I was not expecting to get these results, it is quite an amazing achievement and I am over the moon.”

Emma Thorogood has secured a place at Exeter University to study Psychology and Geography after receiving As in Psychology, Geography and History.

She said: “It is fantastic. I was hoping for this and I have achieved my first choice and could not be happier.

“I put so much work into this year and the exams were so hard but I’ve done it, I am starting university in September and I cannot wait."
