WOODFORD GREEN: Pupils explore health careers

CREATIVE secondary school pupils have been rewarded for their work in exploring career opportunities in the health service.

The four youngsters from Trinity Catholic High School, in Mornington Crescent, Woodford Green, took part in the 'Step into the NHS' competition, organised by NHS Careers.

The 14-year-olds - Shea Mayers-Gaskin, from Chingford, Tomek Kubiakowski, from South Woodford, Finn Halligan, and Alessio Pesci, both from Woodford Green – were asked to research different careers in the health service, before producing a CV, job description, and job advert for their chosen role - a biomedical scientist.

The judges were particularly impressed with their advert, which was shot in the style of a 1950s public information film.

The winners were each presented with a £100 Amazon vouchers by Amanda Baxter, a biomedical scientist at Whipps Cross, during a special presentation at the school on Wednesday (May 19).

School headteacher, Dr Paul Doherty, said: “We are thrilled that our students have won this important prize. This competition has proven to be a valuable classroom tool, engaging students with the workings of the health service and the different career options available to them.

“The hard work and effort invested in this project reflects their commitment and dedication.”
