POLICE are warning people to be on guard against so-called creeper burglars' who take advantage of the warmer weather.

Rather than force entry, creeper burglars' steal through an open window and take something within reach, often when someone is inside the property.

Crime reduction officer Tony Ellis said: "A burglar will wander round a house looking for open windows and steal something which they can reach. It also happens in shopping centres where shops leave the back door open. They'll take staff handbags left in the restrooms.

"My advice would be to keep your personal belongings with you, or if you do have to leave them elsewhere, lock them up."
