LOUGHTON: Views sought on proposed new health facility
CONSULTATION has started on proposals to develop a GP-led health centre in Loughton, building on existing local primary care services.
West Essex Primary Care Trust plans to extend the standard GP services already provided by Traps Hill Surgery. The new service will run from 8am to 8pm seven days a week, including all bank holidays.
The new health centre will offer booked and walk-in appointments to patients registered at the practice and to those who are not registered but who need access to primary care.
The trust plans to run the service across two sites in central Loughton and is currently negotiating for the second site. Details of this site will be available when the trust has completed these discussions.
The plans follow a Government initiative to fund a new GP-led health centre in each trust area across the country. The aim is to make healthcare more personalised and patient centred with wide-ranging integrated services including pre-bookable GP appointments and walk-in services for registered and non-registered patients.
Health chiefs decided the new centre should be in Loughton as it would increase the number of local GPs and bring it in line with the rest of west Essex.
The trust will manage the selection process to determine who will actually run the new service with the aim of awarding the contract by December 31.
Public meetings to explain the plans are being held at Wesley Hall, Loughton Methodist Church, High Road, Loughton, on Tuesday, May 27 (7pm to 9pm) and at the Loughton Methodist Church hall on Monday, June 9 (3pm to 5pm).
Copies of the consultation document are available from the trust's website www.westessexpct.nhs.uk, by ringing Freephone 0800 7833396 or e-mailing mail@westessexpct.nhs.uk
The consultation ends on July 9.
