Buckhurst Hill triathlete Claire Bloom finished 11th in the World Sprint Triathlon Age Group Championship in Hyde Park last Friday.
Bloom was the third fastest GB athlete which means she automatically qualifies for the World Championships in Canada next year.
Up against a large number of athletes from 56 different countries and miserable weather, Bloom swam the 750m distance in 12.58 before storming the 22.5km bike ride in 39.35.
As the rain continued to fall, Bloom finished the run in 21.56, giving her an overall time of 1.21.27.
“It was the hardest race I have ever done,” Bloom, pictured, said. “Not so much because of the conditions but because of the speed of the other athletes.
“It was very slippery out there and we really had to slow down to negotiate the corners. A lot of cyclists came off their bikes due to the conditions.
“It was a tough run in the pouring rain, my legs felt really heavy especially during the second lap.
“It’s been a fantastic year for me in triathlon and after a well earned break I’ll be back to try and improve on my results next year.”
Bloom, whose success comes alongside coach Dermott Hayes and physio Gill Cardy, won a bronze in the European Championships earlier this year.
She is sponsored by David Lloyd Leisure, Gravity UK and the MNDA.
