Crostyx men’s Seconds sealed their first victory of the season on Saturday as they recorded a 4-3 win against Phoenix in Division Three South East.
Crostyx worked tirelessly in the opening stages and they were rewarded when a short corner routine was well finished by Gavin Dixon.
Phoenix pushed forward and found an equaliser but goalkeeper Robin Wallich made save after save to keep the score level at the interval.
In the second period, Dixon was instrumental in helping Crostyx win a short corner that he then converted.
Crostyx came under heavy pressure but managed to hold out and they added a third goal when Kevin Foot found the net.
Phoenix threw everyone forward as they searched for a route back into the game. They pulled a goal back but Crostyx then countered and Foot fired home his second of the match.
Phoenix won their 38th short corner late in the contest and reduced the deficit to one goal but they were unable to complete the comeback and Crostyx saw out the game to seal victory.
Crostyx men’s Thirds suffered a 5-2 defeat against University of Essex in Division Seven South East.
The Essex side were top of the table going into the game and had scored 32 goals in just five matches.
Their ruthlessness in front of goal was shown yet again as Crostyx were 4-0 down at the half-time interval.
Crostyx managed to pull a goal back after the restart through Kym Osborne and David Matson also found the net for the visitors.
However, it wasn’t enough and University of Essex added their fifth of the game to completed a comfortable victory.
Croystx ladies Seconds are still looking for their first points of the season after losing 1-0 at home to Chelmsford Thirds in the Essex Premier Division.
The first half was dominated by the opposition but they were unable to find the breakthrough after strong defending from Crostyx.
But the decisive goal came just five minutes into the second period when a Chelmsford player managed to fire past the goalkeeper.
Crostyx managed to win two short corners but could not convert despite a few good attempts.
The side had one last chance to equalise but they were denied as their determined effort resulted in a narrow defeat.
