Waltham Forest’s poor form in the Ryman League Division One North continued as they suffered a 5-1 home defeat against Witham Town on Saturday.

Tom Wraight volleyed Witham into the lead just 60 seconds into the contest but Waltham levelled four minutes later as Leon Fisher finished well.

Town controlled the opening period however and they were soon back in front as a deep cross was met by Lewis Godbold at the back post and he found the net from close range.

When Forest did attack they caused the hesitant Witham defence problems, however, they went into the interval behind.

The second period continued in the same fashion as the first and chances came and went for both sides. Waltham had a shot cleared off the line by Paul King.

Midway through the half, the Stags were reduced to ten men as Richard Worrell was given his marching orders after an off the ball incident.

It proved costly for the hosts as Witham fired in three further goals. James Stevens fired a shot into the roof of the net before Kris Newby grabbed a late brace.

The defeat leaves Forest bottom of the table and they will hope to end a run of six winless matches when they travel to Heybridge Swifts this Saturday.
