Waltham Abbey suffered their third straight Ryman Division One North defeat after they were beaten 2-0 by Thurrock on Saturday.

The Fleet started the game brightly and Lewis Perkins had an early effort on goal pushed clear by Abbey goalkeeper Richard Wray.

As the half progressed, the match became open. There were no clear cut opportunities however as both defences performed well.

Thurrock thought they should have been awarded a penalty when Ross Wallwas was brought down in the area but the referee turned down the appeals.

Waltham did fall behind just before the interval. The ball dropped to David Knight in the penalty area and he rounded Wray before slotting in.

The second period started with Waltham on the attack but Thurrock kept the visitors at bay.

Andy Walker fired wide for Waltham and, late into the half, Knight doubled his and Thurrock’s tally to seal victory.
