Loughton talent Lochlan Bearman lands second go karting championship

East London and West Essex Guardian Series: Second karting championship for Bearman Second karting championship for Bearman

Lochlan Bearman has clinched his second championship in four years at the age of just 11.

The Debden Park High School pupil won the Kimbolton Championship in Cambridgeshire.

Bearman races go-karts and was champion in his first season at Red Lodge in 2010. The talented racer also came runner-up at Buckmore Park in Kent in 2011 and fourth at Buckmore Park the following year despite being sidelined during the season after breaking his arm in a crash.

Rising star Bearman started karting aged six and has amassed over 70 trophies in his career.

The youngster races in the Honda cadet category which is for eight to 13 year olds with karts that reach speeds of 55mph. Next season he changes category and will race in Minimax where the karts can reach almost 70mph and the age limit is 17.

Bearman is aware he is lucky to be able to participate in a sport he loves and has been raising money for CLIC Sargent, a charity for children with cancer.

He said: “I can’t wait to test a Minimax, the speed and the noise will be fantastic. I’m hoping to try another circuit next year to demonstrate I can race anywhere.

“Obviously I dream about getting to Formula 1 and being world champion but right now I have to focus on a lap at a time, a race at a time and then hopefully the opportunity will come.”

“It’s a significant step up, it is physically very demanding and he will be racing against young men so Lochie will face a steep learning curve,” said his father John.

John Bearman is hoping to find a local sponsor to support his son.
