Crostyx Under-12 girls came within one win of being crowned champions at the indoorhockey.co.uk tournament at Brentwood last Saturday but were undone in a deciding match against Canterbury.

After only winning one game last year, Crostyx started with a 3-2 win thanks to Lucy Leel's hat-trick.

Leel scored two more in the second game to help earn a 2-2 draw against tournament favourites Blue Hornets.

Comfortable wins followed against Chelmsford, Brentwood and Hertford with Lucy scoring four more and Lara Chick, Clara Johnston and Imogen Murphy all adding to the goal tally.

A late goal denied Crostyx another victory against Old Loughtonians who grabbed a 1-1 draw from a last minute short corner.

Going into their final match against Canterbury, both teams had 16 points knowing the winner would take the title.

Crostyx started brightly and scored their first short corner to take a 1-0 lead but from then on the overall strength of the Canterbury squad took over and the result was a 5-1 defeat.

The loss meant the girls finished third, taking home a well-earned bronze medal.

The Under-12 Boys meanwhile bounced back from a slow start to record two wins, the first a 2-1 victory over Reading before beating Old Loughtonians 1-0.

The Under-10 boys, who started off with two good wins against Brentwood and Hertford, then lost 1-0 in the last minute against Old Loughtonians.

The next three games were tight but better finishing by the opposition resulted in three defeats meaning Crostyx finished fifth.
