Kevin Lisbie insists the hunger of Premier League prospects Jamar Loza and Shaquile Coulthirst has been a major boost for Leyton Orient.

The veteran striker has faced a heavy workload due to the injuries to Shaun Batt and regular partner David Mooney. But the O’s brought in teenage forwards Loza and Coulthirst on loan and Lisbie has been impressed by their attitudes.

The 35-year-old said: “For me it’s encouraging to see young kids running about up front because I’ve stopped doing that for a while now. It’s good for them and you could see how much the goal meant to him [Coulthirst] at the end with his family there. It’s good for him and the team.

“They’re both at Premier League clubs and both really sharp and, more than anything else, they’re both hungry and I think it shows. You get young boys coming into League 1 clubs and sometimes they have a bit of attitude, but they’ve both been really on it and came here to prove a point which I think they are.”

Lisbie has yet to be paired with Coulthirst but he started alongside Loza in the recent win at Shrewsbury Town and thinks the Norwich City prospect made a valuable contribution.

He said: “I think Jamar was really good the other day considering it was away to Shrewsbury on a Tuesday night. I thought he put himself about and set up the first goal. I don’t know how many games he’s played in the last few months but he looked really fit and sharp and showed he can do a job. That’s good for the team and myself obviously because the legs are getting a bit heavy now.”

Lisbie’s goals have dried up in recent months, having not scored since October, so it was a welcome sign to see the former Charlton Athletic striker get back on the scoresheet against Carlisle United.

The Orient talisman insisted he was not worried about his goal drought and it was only a matter of time with the quality of service from the O’s attackers.

Lisbie said: “I prefer this situation. I’ve not been scoring but we’re winning games. The last two years I’ve been heavily relied upon to get the goals, but I think we’re getting them from everywhere now and the results were still coming so it wasn’t much of an issue for me.

“You look at the people we’ve got creating, Mo (Odubajo), Coxy (Dean), Lloydy (James), so I was going to get a goal eventually.

“It’s my 13th so it’s not like I’ve not scored this season but with Mo and Coxy in our team, our strikers are always going to get chances so I knew it would come.”
