Russell Slade believes new signing Chris Dagnall will be a great acquisition for Leyton Orient after he scored twice on his debut in their 2-1 win at Crewe.

The O's returned to the top of League 1 after Dagnall, who joined the club on Thursday, came off the bench and struck twice in the space of seven minutes.

Slade said: "He was inspired and they were great finishes. That's what he's about. He's very lively and gets between people and behind people. He can link up as well and he's going to prove to be a great acquisition for the club."

Dagnall linked up impressively with Kevin Lisbie during the second half and the O's boss was not surprised by how quickly they forged a partnership.

Slade said: "They're good players aren't they so it doesn't take long for them to get an understanding even though they haven't had much time on the training field."

Orient returned to the top of the league after Brentford could only draw at Walsall and Slade believes his side had to work very hard to turn around their 1-0 deficit.

The O's boss said: "Brentford have drawn so it's great news really. It was a really hard-earned performance in terms of getting a result here today.

"I thought Crewe were excellent and put us under a lot of pressure particularly late on in the game and we had to come from behind yet again."
