Crostyx men registered a superb 3-1 victory over Waltham Forest in the East Premier B Division on Saturday.

Crostyx opened the scoring after Forest’s Richard Arkle surrendered possession, allowing Billy Bowes to take full advantage.

Forest came back strongly and almost equalised late in the first half but Crostyx captain Joe Whiteheard was well-placed to clear the ball off the line.

Determined to improve on a lacklustre first-half performance, Forest began the second period brightly but it was their opponents who scored next as Rob Harrison converted a deflected short corner at the back post.

Forest did pull themselves back into the match when a well-worked short corner routine gave Phil Peacock an easy tap-in.

As the visitors pushed for an equaliser, Crostyx broke quickly and Bowes added his second and his team’s third to round off an unexpected win.

Crostyx ladies remain top of the East Division Two Central after a resounding 6-0 win over Ipswich & East Suffolk.

Alys Hackett was unlucky not to score early on when her short corner strike was disallowed for an illegal short corner stop.

The short corners were aplenty but Crostyx were unable to convert and the only goal of the first half came when Ciara Newell played in Di Berill to score.

Crostyx were on top for the majority of the first half and the second period proved little different as they added another five to their tally.

Newell scored her second of the game, finishing off a 40-yard dribble with a sharp shot, before sealing her hat-trick from a tight angle.

Donna Blockley came back on to the field from an earlier injury and scored Crostyx’s fourth before Berill’s shot ended up with Sarah Belsham, who applied the finish.

The sixth and final goal came as Hackett set up Berill to slot home.

Crostyx sit top the table, two points clear of Sudbury. The ladies play Hertford this weekend at the Peter May Stadium, with push back at 1.30pm.

Waltham Forest ladies are only six points off the top of the table after a well-deserved 5-1 win over Burnt Ash.

Forest worked hard to gain the advantage and finally made a breakthrough when Lucy Butcher’s short corner strike was deflected in by Jenny Field.

The first goal was followed up by two more from Katherine Abbie, who fired both low into the right corner.

Burnt Ash always remained a threat on the break and scored their only goal of the game shortly after half-time.

However, Forest were not to be denied and Butcher scored a fourth for the home side with a shot from the edge of the D before the win was wrapped up by Amy Morris, who scored her first goal for the club from a short corner.

Old Loughtonians ladies missed out on promotion from Division Two by just one goal at the National Indoor League in Nottingham last weekend.

A slow start against Horsham led to an 8-4 defeat but Loughts bounced back with an encouraging win against Stourport, meaning all teams were on three points at the end of the first day.

A 5-1 defeat against Ipswich on Sunday morning put Old Loughts on the back foot but again they bounced back with a solid win against a physical and skilful Army team.

This meant Loughts needed to win by eight goals in their final match against Oxford Hawkes to clinch promotion.

It seemed an impossible task but the ladies managed to reach a position where they needed two goals in the last few minutes.

Loughts scored one more but couldn’t manage the crucial last score and had to settle for third place, just outside the promotion spots.
