Chingford Under-15s secured promotion to Essex Division Two with a resounding 32-0 win over Sudbury in wet and windy conditions.
Despite the emphatic result, Chingford needed 50 points to guarantee promotion and it was only after other matches finished that their success was confirmed.
Sudbury started the stronger side and put Chingford under heavy pressure early on but without reward.
In fact it was the visitors who scored first when Josh Oranu-Noah crossed the line and a clever set-piece soon after allowed Andreas Constantinou to extend the Chingford lead to 10-0.
Sudbury's early momentum had been lost and a sloppy kick found full-back Connor Hurst who run the ball back 30 metres before offloading to Oranu-Noah who in turn fed Constantinou to claim his second try.
With the wind behind them, Chingford turned the screw in the second period but much to the team's frustration were unable to increase their advantage.
Eventually the relentless pressure told when Bobby Edwards peeled off the back off a scrum to drive over for another try.
Sudbury did create some attacks of their own but Chingford's resolute defence held firm and flanker Dan Linton made it 25-0 with another score after a good run from JJ Downey.
Although the 50-point target was out of reach, there was still time for one more five-pointer as Connor Hurst's blistering run enabled man of the match Downey to cap a fine peformance with the final try.
"The next months will give Chingford to opportunity to prepare for life in a higher division where the opponents will be stronger, fitter, faster and more technically proficient," Chingford coach Lawrence Macrides said:.
"But now Chingford can briefly bask in the sunshine of a successful season and enjoy the moment before to hard work really begins."
