Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade insists the O's needed to produce an impressive performance to defeat Coventry City 2-0.

The East Londoners made it four consecutive wins in League 1 to keep within touching distance of leaders Brentford with a game in hand.

Slade said: "It needs to be impressive when you're playing Coventry. I think they're a very, very good side and for me they've still got a chance of the play-offs.

"Certainly if they hadn't had that points deduction for me they'd be right up there. The manager's doing a fantastic job for them and they pushed us all the way.

"We created chances fortunately and our attitude and the fact that we are absolutely relentless in what we do, in the end, paid off because we had to keep knocking on the door and eventually we found our way through."

Orient had to wait until Dean Cox's second-half opener but arguably the most significant moment was David Mooney's return from injury as their top scorer added the second goal as a substitute.

Slade said: "I don't think he'd [Mooney] had too many touches before that and to get a goal, although their keeper would probably be slightly disappointed, is great. It was on target and in these conditions they can take a wicked bounce and he's got himself a great goal."
