Old Loughtonians men moved up to third in the Conference East Division after a 3-2 away victory over Bromley & Beckenham on Sunday.
Loughts have now recorded four league wins in a row but remain nine points adrift of second-placed Southgate.
Conor Caplan opened the scoring for the visitors after James Southgate's ball through and Loughts doubled their lead before half-time when Tom Watson pounced on another Southgate pass before slotting home for 2-0.
Bromley pulled themselves back in the game shortly after the interval as Pete Dobson applied the finish.
But Loughtonians restored their two-goal advantage in the 47th minute as a well-rehearsed short corner found its way to George Farrant at the back post and he flicked it high into the net.
Careless defending gave Bromley a series of short corners and Jamie Grannell made it 3-2 four minutes later but Loughts survived some late pressure to take maximum points.
Loughts look too far back to mount a title challenge but they will test themselves against the league leaders on Sunday when they host Holcombe.
Loughts ladies lost 1-0 at second-placed East Grinstead in the Conference East on Sunday.
The defeat means Loughts are now third from bottom, seven points above the relegation zone with a trip to Horsham to come on Saturday.
There was better news for one of Loughts players however as Alice Willis was named The Hockey Writers’ Club Under-16 Player of the Year.
Willis plays for the first team and was part of the Under-16 side who were runners-up at the National Indoor Finals last season.
Waltham Forest men beat Bishop’s Stortford 3-1 in East Premier B.
Forest were awarded an early penalty flick that Nico Kurt confidently converted but the visitors equalised from a penalty corner to make it 1-1 at the break.
The home side restored their lead in the second period through Rich Lowe and Chris Drewe sealed the win after some unselfish play from Phil Peacock.
Waltham Forest ladies drew 1-1 at home to Brentwood in the battle of second against third in Division 2SE.
Forest fell behind but player of the match Elizabeth Evans ensured Forest went home with a share of the spoils.
League leaders Crostyx ladies conceded a late equaliser to draw 2-2 at Sudbury in Division 2C.
Donna Blockley and Alys Hackett twice put Crostyx ahead but a defensive error late on allowed Sudbury to score. Blockley was also sent off in the latter stages.
Crostyx men, who are second bottom of East Premier B, suffered a crushing 10-0 defeat at home to Cambridge City Seconds.
