East London Boxing Academy's Roman Haidari continued his quest for a third national ABA title after winning his quarter final on Sunday.

Haidari beat Eastern Counties champion Harry Cornwell to reach the semi-finals, which will be held on the weekend of May 31/June 1.

Speaking afterwards, coach Umer Ali said: "Roman displayed great skill and showed championship calibre by clearly outpointing his opponent and winning every minute of every round. Roman wants to be a three time national champion and is working hard to accomplish his dream, his work ethic is second to none.

"At present we have a great atmosphere in the gym and all the boys are helping Roman prepare," added Ali.

There had been earlier success for East London Boxing Academy in Essex on Saturday, where Muhammed Ali lived up to his name and maintained his unbeaten record.

On Friday the academy saw another three fighters win at the All Stars boxing show in Harrow.

Ismail Qureshi got the evening off to a good start by beating the previously-undefeated White Hart Lane fighter Romerio.

Atsham Khan continued in the same vein, winning confidently against Oxford ABC's representative.

Zaibah Ullah followed suit, completing a hat-trick for the club with a win against home favourite Keiren O'Donnell.

Reflecting on the weekend as a whole, coach Ali said: "I am really pleased with the squad who have all won in the last few days, this is a testimony to the hard work they have put in the gym.

"I am extremely proud of all the boys, especially Ismail Qureshi and Muhammed Ali, who have been the breakthrough boys for this season and are the next breed of champions who will follow in the footsteps of Atsham and Roman to championship glory."
