There will be four British riders competing in the Tour de France after Orica GreenEdge became the 22nd and final team to confirm their nine-rider line-up for the start line in Leeds on Saturday.

It looked like only Ongar’s Mark Cavendish, defending champion Chris Froome and his Sky teammate Geraint Thomas were set to race through west Essex and East London during Stage Three on Monday after Alex Dowsett and, more controversially, David Millar were left out by their respective teams due to health issues.

However, Australian outfit Orica have decided to include Simon Yates, a first-year professional and twin brother of teammate Adam.

Aged only 21, Yates won the points race at the 2013 Track World Championships but showed further evidence of his promise on the roads by finishing 12th in this year's Tour of the Basque Country.

The Bury-born rider then suffered a broken collarbone during the Tour of Turkey – a race won by his brother – but comes into the Tour in good form after finishing third in Sunday’s National Road Race Championship.

Yates is one of three riders named Simon to be selected by Orica and their full line-up is: Jens Keukeleire (Belgium); Michael Albasini (Switzerland); Simon Clarke (Australia); Luke Durbridge (Australia); Simon Gerrans (Australia); Mathew Hayman (Australia); Michael Matthews (Australia); Svein Tuft (Canada); Simon Yates (Great Britain).

A full list of all 22 teams will be published in our eight-page Tour de France special in this week’s Guardian Series.
