Wanstead and Snaresbrook Seconds were beaten by 15 runs at home to Upminster Seconds on Saturday

Junaid Sarwar single-handedly condemned Wanstead and Snaresbrook Seconds to a 15-run loss at home to Upminster Seconds.

Upminster’s number six fell two short of a century but still saved the visitors’ innings with an unbeaten knock of 98.

The away side were on 18 for five when Sarwar came to the crease and played his way to 98 as partners came and went.

Wickets tumbled but Sarwar remained the constant and carried his side to 172 all out.

Jack Lord proved the thorn in Upminster’s side, taking four for 37.

Wanstead were also less-than-convincing with the bat and were removed for 157.

Steven Ramdial (32) and Joe Coffey (31) made the only meaningful contributions as the hosts fell short.

Matt Tigg did the damage with the ball, finishing with figures of five for 62.

Chingford Seconds held on to draw with Buckhurst Hill Seconds.

Batting first, hosts Buckhurst reached 200 for eight before declaring.

In reply, the visitors hit 151 for nine to hold out for a draw.

South Woodford Seconds’ trip to Shenfield Seconds was abandoned after the hosts’ innings due to rain.

Second XI Division One

James McKay took three for nine as Fives and Heronians Seconds thrashed Woodford Wells Seconds by 110 runs.

Neil Braithwaite opened with a half-century for Fives and Riki Laird added 70 as the hosts declared on 264 for nine.

Laird then got stuck into the Wells attack, taking three for 26 before McKay helped reduce the visitors to 154 all out.

Thomas Styles top-scored with 41.

Wajahat Bukhari took five wickets to help Loughton Seconds beat Hainault and Clayhall Seconds by 38 runs.

Hosts Loughton won the toss and batted first, with Ashfaq Parvez (33) and Fahad Anwar (20) opening well.

Daniel Gymer added 54 but the tail disappointed as the home side were removed for 173.

The visitors could only muster 135 in reply, with Bukhari (five for 45) and Parvez (two for 13) doing the damage.

Second XI Division Two

Azhar Ali hit 70 to help West Essex Seconds to a draw at home to Gidea Park and Romford Seconds.

Put into bat first, the hosts were struggling before Ali and Arfan Mohammed (54) helped move the score along.

Waqas Butt added 35 before the home side declared on 250 for eight.

Michael Pegram finished with figures of three for 22 for the visitors.

Elloit Joyner hit 60 in reply for Gidea Park and Jack Pegram added 42.

Late knocks of 40 from M Pegram and Will Jarrold saw the visitors close on 230 for nine.

Waqas Butt took three for 39 but West Essex could not claim the crucial final wicket.

Second XI Division Three

Woodford Green Seconds held on for a draw against Harlow Town Seconds, despite a less-than-impressive batting display.

Jason Gladwin (85) and Tim Poulter (48) helped Harlow to 228 for seven before declaring in an attempt to bowl out their visitors.

The away side began brightly with the bat but after Jason Takavarasha’s 43 collapsed, just holding on at 149 for eight.

Simon Rowell was the most prolific wicket-taker for Harlow, taking five for 40.

Oakfield Parkonians Seconds came agonisingly close against Benfleet Seconds, falling nine runs short.

A knock of 106 not out from David Wright put the visitors on their way to 225 for nine.

Kabir Matwala did his bit to restrict the Benfleet score, taking four for 48.

Parks shared the runs around during their innings but just came up short despite good contributions from Haaris Shah (44) and Indipreet Bhatia (36).

Epping Seconds were well-beaten by six wickets at Old Southendian and Southchurch.

Removed for 144, Epping could only take four Old Southendian wickets as the hosts hit 145.
