Woodford Green with Essex Ladies pair Tiffany Porter and Shana have both been confirmed as part of Team GB's squad for next month's European Championships.

British Athletics announced a 74-strong squad for this summer's championships in Zurich, Switzerland, on Tuesday morning, with the WGEL duo both included.

Porter has been selected for the women's 100m hurdles, whilst Cox has been included as part of the 4x400m line-up.

The pair both earned their places at the European Championships with their performances at last month's British Championships; Porter taking gold in the 100m hurdles and Cox claiming silver in the 400m.

Athletes finishing in the top two places at the championships automatically qualified for the European Championships, which will run from August 12 to 17 in Zurich.

Porter, 26, has previously represented Great Britain at the 2011 European Indoor Championships in Paris, winning silver in the 60m hurdles.

However, the American-born hurdler has not been to an outdoor European Championships before.

Twenty-nine-year-old Cox also went to the 2013 European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, where she was part of the Team GB 4x400m team which won gold.

British Athletics performance director Neil Black said: “The fact that there were so many tough selection choices reflects on the depth and strength we have in some events this summer.

“There is an expectation for members of this team to be winning medals or challenging hard at the top end in their finals with youngsters coming through from junior ranks and our experienced medallists performing as strongly as they have in previous years.

"I’m genuinely excited as to the strength of the team headed for Zurich and looking forward next month’s championships in Switzerland.”
