London Raiders have announced their first signings for the 2014/15 season, with four former players re-signing.

Frankie Harvey, David Oliver, Adam Smith and Jakub Klima have all returned to the club having previously turned out for the Raiders.

A former Romford player, Oliver joined London Raiders last summer in their inaugural season at Lee Valley and player-coach Danny Marshall is hoping the 25-year-old will build on his impressive 2013/14 performances.

“David had a great season last year,” Marshall told the club’s website.

“He got a lot of ice-time and stepped up to the challenge. He is a reliable defender and a great motivator who strives to get the team going at every opportunity.”

Forward Harvey, 21, is another added to the squad following speculation he would not be in a Raiders’ shirt this season.

It had been anticipated Harvey would move to a rival organization or retire in order to concentrate on increasing business commitments, however he has returned to Lee Valley.

Said Marshall: “He scored a lot of goals last year and brings plenty of experience which will be extremely valuable this season.

“He is a loyal player who works hard every shift. I look forward to seeing him produce great hockey in the coming season.”

Also returning to the team are forwards Smith and Klima.

Smith announced his retirement from the sport when Romford Ice Arena closed in 2013 but soon returned to the ice.

The 27-year-old has spent eight years at rivals Invicta Dynamos before joining the Raiders for the first time in 2010.

“Retaining the likes of AJ was an important part of the team set-up,” noted Marshall.

“It is great to have experienced, skilful players like him around me. He is one of our key players and would be hard to replace. He knows our history and helps keep the team grounded. He has good leadership skills and that’s a talent that will come into play this season, more so than ever before.”

Klima is the Raiders' first overseas signing and was last at the club midway through last season.

Prior to the 24-year-old’s spell with the Raiders last season, Klima had endured an unhappy stint at Invicta and Marshall had no hesitation in bringing the Czech back to the club.

“Kuba was a breath of fresh air when he came to play for us last season,” explained Marshall.

“He oozed skill, experience and character, has a great eye for goal and his style of play is technically very accomplished.

“He makes things look easy while striving for perfection every shift and I am really looking forward to playing alongside him again. If he finds the net as many times as he did last season I will be one happy coach.”

The Raiders are expected to announce further additions to the 2014/15 roster within the next week.
