The long journey back from Hull City on Monday night was made a little easier having witnessed a quite stunning goal from West Ham United forward Enner Valencia.

We have all seen great West Ham goals over the years but this strike was as good as any that come to mind.

Despite the goal I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that West Ham had not come away with all three points from the KC Stadium, although many would argue that 2-2 was a fair result.

The first Hull goal came a little out of the blue as they had not threatened and, as the away team, I felt West Ham were doing quite well. Certainly if anyone looked like breaking the deadlock it was the Hammers.

The goal just after half time from Valencia was obviously much needed and we have been crying out for a player for some time now who can make something happen out of nothing.

At this level it can be the difference and the strike from Valencia was top class.

By this stage of the game it was all West Ham. The travelling supporters were in fine voice and the team looked as though they had that incentive to go on and take it to the opposition.

So when Mo Diame (who else?) scored the second for Hull, totally against the run of play, you did have to question whether it was going to be one of those nights.

Thankfully it would only be a handful of minutes until Diafra Sahko put a cross-cum-shot towards goal which the Hull defender Curtis Davies could only bundle over his own line.

With the four minutes of injury time almost up, Hammers fans were almost left celebrating a winner as Valencia’s header looked destined for the net, only for Michael Dawson to deflect the ball onto the Hull crossbar.

There has clearly been a change into the way West Ham are approaching games. The two away games have shown this in a better light and there is certainly a more attacking feel to our play now.

This needs to be turned into victories though, as with Liverpool and Manchester United up next, it is going to be very difficult to get anything from our next two games.

There were positives to take out of the Hull game and whilst defensively there are concerns, as Sam Allardyce has pointed out in his post match interviews, the players at West Ham's disposal appear to have improved significantly from last season.

A win over Liverpool would be the perfect follow on from this decent display against Hull and would give everyone at West Ham that boost of confidence which is still lacking - and has been since last season.
