Kevin Nugent insists he has no intention of joining Russell Slade at Cardiff City and has re-iterated he is focused on staying at Leyton Orient.

Former Orient boss Slade has admitted he would be keen for Nugent to join his coaching team in Wales if he leaves Orient but the caretaker boss insists his future remains at Brisbane Road.

Nugent said: “It was very kind of Russell to say that about me but I’m contracted to Leyton Orient. He is a very good friend of mine who I speak to every other day but I’m contracted here and that’s where I’m staying.”

Nugent claimed a statement on his future would be released shortly after Saturday's 2-2 draw at Sheffield United but nothing has been released by the club, increasing doubts over his future.

“The situation hasn’t really changed since last weekend,” Nugent said. “As it stands I’m fully in charge of the football club at the moment. I have the good of the club in my heart and will do all I can to help them up the table.

“The players know that I’m in charge at the moment and we are going to do everything to help ourselves climb up the table.”
