Leyton Orient are understood to have appointed Kevin Nugent as interim manager until the end of the season.

Nugent has been in temporary charge for four matches since Russell Slade resigned. The Guardian Series reported he was offered the head coach role several weeks ago but it was understood the club had second thoughts over his position.

But despite picking up one point from three league games, along with a Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Dagenham & Redbridge, it appears Nugent has been given the go-ahead to stay in charge for the rest of the season.

The decision is likely to be an unpopular one with some supporters that wanted an experienced manager with a track record in lower leagues.

Speaking earlier this week, Nugent said: "As it stands I’m fully in charge of the football club at the moment. I have the good of the club in my heart and will do all I can to help them up the table.

“The players know that I’m in charge at the moment and we are going to do everything to help ourselves climb up the table.”
