Leyton Orient interim manager Kevin Nugent has admitted his side are involved in a relegation battle.

The O's are one place above the bottom four after their goalless draw at home to MK Dons but have won only two League 1 games all season.

Orient were expected to challenge for promotion this season but a winless run at home, the departure of Russell Slade and a series of injury setbacks have left the team at the wrong end of the table.

Nugent said: "Every football match you play is always a bit of a battle. But listen we were in the relegation zone [prior to the match] and we need to make sure we look at that and recognise we're in that. To get out of that the first thing you need to have is the spirit and a battling performance."

Reflecting on his team's draw against MK Dons, Nugent said: "It was a difficult game. We were up against the top scorers in the league. I thought we contained them to one double save off Gary Woods and we had some good opportunities in the first half but it was a really tough game for us.

"We'll take a point at the end because we're in a real battle now and the players showed that they are up for that battle."
